These terms govern your registration, payment and use of Altruism — the desktop app and the question banks it gives you access to. By registering, you agree to them.
Altruism ("Altruism," "we," "us," "our") is a Windows desktop app and website at thealtruismapp.co.uk offering practice question banks for professional medical licensing exams, including USMLE, AMC, UKMLA and SMLE.
Altruism is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NBME, FSMB, or the governing bodies of the AMC, UKMLA or SMLE examinations.
Altruism is intended for adults preparing for professional medical licensing exams. By registering, you confirm that the details you give us are accurate, and that you're using Altruism for your own personal exam preparation.
Submitting the registration form on our website does not create an account or charge you. It sends your details to us so an Ambassador or our team can follow up with you to arrange payment.
This process is handled manually and reviewed by us, so it may take some time between registering and receiving access.
A pass gives you full access to every question bank we publish for 270 days from the date your account is activated. It is a one-time purchase — passes don't renew automatically, and you won't be charged again unless you choose to register and pay for a new pass.
The price shown at registration is in GBP, or the local-currency equivalent when paying through an Ambassador. Question bank content may be updated, corrected or expanded during your pass; this isn't a change to your pass and doesn't extend or shorten it.

All questions, explanations, images and other material in Altruism's question banks, and the app itself, are owned by or licensed to Altruism and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
Registering for a pass gives you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use this content for your own exam preparation. It doesn't give you ownership of it, or any right to reproduce, resell or redistribute it.
Altruism Ambassadors are independent local representatives who help arrange payment in your region — for example, by bank transfer or cash in local currency. They are not Altruism employees, and their role is limited to helping you complete payment.
Altruism remains responsible for confirming your payment, creating your account, and activating your pass once an Ambassador confirms it's been received.
You can cancel your registration and receive a full refund of anything you've already paid at any time before your account is activated. Once your pass is activated — meaning your account has been created and your 270-day access has begun — it is non-refundable, except where required by consumer protection law that applies to you.
If you believe you've been charged in error, or a payment made through an Ambassador wasn't correctly recorded, contact us at support@thealtruismapp.co.uk and we'll look into it.
Altruism's content is practice study material. It is not official exam content, is not written or endorsed by any exam's governing body, and is not medical advice. We don't guarantee that using Altruism will result in passing any exam.
We aim to keep Altruism available and its content accurate and up to date, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. The app and question banks may be updated, modified, or briefly unavailable for maintenance from time to time. Altruism is an actively developed product, and features may be added, changed or removed as it grows.
You can stop using Altruism at any time by contacting us at support@thealtruismapp.co.uk.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms — including sharing your account, misusing the device limit, or attempting to copy or bypass our content protections — or if we reasonably suspect fraud or a payment chargeback. Where practical, we'll try to let you know why.
Altruism is provided "as is." To the extent permitted by law, we don't accept liability for your exam results, for any indirect or consequential loss, or for issues caused by your own device or internet connection.
Where we are liable to you, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your current pass. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that can't lawfully be excluded or limited, such as liability for fraud.
We may update these terms as Altruism changes. If we make a material change, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let registered users know. Continuing to use Altruism after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest continues to apply.
